We left our home port Marina Village Yacht Harbor just before 1000 (10 A.M.) A number of family and friends showed up to bid us farewell. We motored out the Golden Gate and bid ado to San Francisco Bay.
We were just to sea when “Fleet Week”‘s Sunday airshow was getting started so we had a private show under the staging area. We saw a number of planes and helicopters fly-by.
After a couple more hours we decided to put the sails up (wind was around 12 knots). We motor sailed for about an hour until the winds dropped to around 3 knots. We took the sails down and went back to just motoring. We arrived in Half Moon Bay (Pillar Point) just before 17:00 (5 P.M.)
After anchoring and cleaning up we had dinner and relaxed for a bit. The last month has been very busy. We finished packing our belongings, I finished my work life (i.e. I am now retired), prepped the boat (someday maybe we’ll be finished with that) and said good-bye to friends and family. It was nice to sit on the boat with our feet up and not have to do much for a couple of hours.
We had some excitement on the way down we saw a pod of 3 or 4 humped back whales. They were feasting. There were some dolphins, seals and (of course) a lot of birds.
